My Engineering client based in Hamilton is recruiting for a highly driven, self-motivated and self-confident Project Manager to demonstrate leadership and coordinate the actions of peers.

The Project Manager, based in Hamilton, will have a positive ‘can do’ attitude, and be capable of influencing and co-ordinating both the action of peers and discussions with the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall management of projects through engineering, procurement and construction/fabrication phases
  • Ensure that the project works are executed safely and efficiently, with quality, programme and cost objectives achieved to the mutual satisfaction of the Customer
  • Ensure all appropriate Health & Safety procedures are applied at all project locations
  • Ensure that the project team operates to procedures and any other specific requirements of the contract
  • Issue the Project Execution Strategy and Execution Plan, identifying any changesto procedures and any project specific requirements which are necessitated by the contract.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks and responsibilities to project team members, extending intelligent trust for monitoring and follow-up
  • Identify and manage risk and opportunity to project delivery utilising systems and procedures
  • Utilise and champion change control systems
  • Hold internal progress review meetings as necessary
  • Ensure, in conjunction with departmental heads, that adequate resources and facilities are available to the project team at the right time
  • Act as the focal point for all project communications with customers, financial authorities, agents, consortium partners and sites
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with customers, such that customers would wish to place future business
  • Report regularly to the customer on project progress, areas of concern, risks and mitigations
  • Visit customers, consortium partners, suppliers, sub-contractors and sites as necessary
  • Prepare project budget and agree target with senior management
  • Provide accurate and timely management information, reporting progress,
  • financial forecasting and risk & opportunity to senior management
  • Attend senior management progress review meetings
  • Establish set up of project administration systems including the filing system
  • Prepare a project close-out report and archive the project records
  • Capture lessons learned and review operations to identify and implement efficiencies and identify and manage risk and exploit opportunities
  • Use up to date project methodology and process to implement and improve current project management procedures across the company
  • Provide commitment to innovation by proposing, facilitating and delivering innovation projects
  • Provide assistance to the Tendering Dept. in the preparation and submission of Tenders
  • Ensure that company values are adopted, adhered to and communicated such that the integrity of the company is upheld to the highest level
  • Provide leadership, motivation and inspiration to the team and create a positive culture throughout all departments
  • Demonstrate confidence to lead /coordinate a team in complex multi-disciplinaryprojects with multiple interfaces and stakeholders
  • Establish a strong and cohesive project team
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as client, fabricators and suppliers to enable smooth delivery of a project
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills to deliver effective relationship-building at all levels
  • Strong presentational and verbal communication skills
  • Provide supplementary assessment reports for project personnel as requested by department line managers to support performance management
  • Recommend future training for project personnel
  • Recommend project personnel for succession planning

Knowledge, Skills & Experiences:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline or Quantity Surveying
  • Turnkey process plant contracting required
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience required
  • Previous experience of managing and leading large, complex projects of a lump-sum nature within heavy industries
  • Experience of dealing with overseas fabricators and customers
