MRD Recruitment is currently recruiting a Commodity Manager to join one of our clients in Falkirk.
The Opportunity
As the Commodity Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving the company’s procurement strategy for key components. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where you’ll develop commodity strategies, manage supplier relationships, negotiate commercial terms, and deliver cost, quality, and delivery improvements. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, influence new product development, and make decisions that have a direct impact on the business’s profitability and operational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop best-in-class commodity strategies for the procurement of key components.
- Identify new supply sources to improve cost, quality, delivery, and innovation.
- Achieve annual PPV and VIP savings targets to enhance profitability.
- Build and nurture strong relationships with key suppliers, both strategically and operationally.
- Monitor and improve supplier performance on cost, quality, and availability.
- Negotiate commercial and contractual terms with suppliers.
- Identify and manage supply chain risks, ensuring continuity and stability.
- Collaborate closely with procurement engineers, buyers, and design engineering teams on cost and supplier involvement in new product development.
- Provide additional support as requested by the Head of Procurement.
Required Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience in commodity management, ideally within the automotive or manufacturing sector.
- Proven track record in strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management.
- Strong commercial acumen and business insight.
- Excellent negotiation, persuasion, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to build relationships internally and externally.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver results.
- Confident decision-maker, even under tight timelines and limited information.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in all aspects of commodity management, including sourcing, supplier selection, negotiation, and performance management.
- MCIPS qualification preferred.
