Mechanical/ Building Services Engineer -| Port Glasgow | £45,000 – £55,000 + Bonus
About the Role
MRD are working with a leading global semiconductor manufacturer on an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical / Building Services Engineer to join their site Facilities team. This is a hands-on engineering role, providing mechanical support across a busy manufacturing facility.
You will assist in the operation and development of the site’s mechanical systems, ensuring reliable, safe, and cost-efficient delivery of services to support all manufacturing activities. Over time, you will be developed to become the system owner for key mechanical plant and building services on site.
Key Responsibilities

Support day-to-day operation of mechanical systems including supply air, ventilation, and HVAC

Assess plant condition, develop improvement solutions, and manage projects from scope through to commissioning and handover

Assist in the maintenance of cleanrooms, refrigeration, steam/hot water generation, pumped water systems, compressed air, vacuum systems, and effluent treatment

Prepare specifications, procedures, and tender documents, and liaise with contractors

Use AutoCAD to produce or modify site drawings and manage the site drawing portfolio

Identify energy-saving opportunities and support energy monitoring initiatives

Work with Building Management Systems and maintain compliance with legislation and industry standards (lifting equipment, pressure systems, L8, etc.)

Contribute to small- to medium-sized projects, providing support with minimal supervision

Communicate effectively across teams and disciplines, supporting a busy, close-knit Facilities environment
Skills & Competencies

Strong mechanical / building services knowledge

Experience in plant assessment, problem solving, and project management

Competence in AutoCAD desirable; training will be provided if required

Understanding of mechanical building services standards and legislation

Proficient in Microsoft Office and general IT literacy

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks efficiently

Capable of working independently and as part of a team
Qualifications & Experience

Degree in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering preferred, but HNC/HND with relevant experience considered

Practical experience in manufacturing, ideally semiconductor or high-tech environments
-
Exposure to energy monitoring, cleanrooms, and complex mechanical systems advantageous
